Linda Jones BA (Hons) Fine Art University College Falmouth

I live and work in St Austell, Cornwall. Painting is my main creative work. I believe paintings are infinitely flexible. They take us to the familiar and to the strange; involve us in time and memory.

The source of my images comes mainly from my local environment, many recent paintings being based on the park near to my home. I often start with an image that is a direct response to something I have seen which excited or interested me. Other images develop further from the original idea.

Human interest lies at the heart of my work. We are physically small within our landscapes but we are so totally involved in what we are doing – in our part of it – and I like to reflect these two aspects.

I aim to develop my painting to give the paint itself a stronger sense of presence. I believe through this I can emphasise a response to experience of the world and allow my paintings to appear as sensual rather than literal.

Biography

I was born and brought up in Bexleyheath, Kent and moved to Cornwall in 1972 but have also lived and worked for periods in Canada, Texas and Scotland. Experiences from family life and living in different societies and environments influence my work.

While in Texas I studied painting and drawing at South West Texas State University. I studied for my BA (Hons) Degree in Fine Art at University College Falmouth, in Cornwall.
